Abstract

Over the years, a booming growth in Bangladesh’s population, has caused a massive change in the use of land in the city areas. Dhaka being its capital city, the most prominent changes can be observed at the heart of the capital. Once a tranquil residential area, Dhanmondi area has gone through massive changes with time. At present, Dhanmondi residential area of Dhaka city has become a multi-purpose zone, resulting in a massive load on the existing road network. Consequently, the social character of the area has changed very drastically. This has forced the use of neighborhood roads as secondary and tertiary roads, which lack edge and are not ideal for any neighborhood space. The purpose of this paper is to determine the spatial logic of the morphological transformation of the landuse pattern in the residential street of Dhanmondi, Dhaka. In this paper author would like to come up with alternative road network routes using Syntactics Analysis. Methodology will include both theoretical base of spatial findings and Syntactic analysis of current road networking of Dhanmondi residential area. Through alternative syntactic analysis, it will be possible to determine the significance of “Third Place” for the formation of the existing morphology of the Dhanmondi residential neighborhood.
