About This Special Issue
Results of research works on mathematical modeling of extraction process of acetyl acetone from waste waters of paint and varnish industry with isopropyl ether in spray extractor were given in the paper.Currently the treatment of waste water from hydrocarbons is performed by using mechanical, physical-chemical and biological methods. These methods have a number of essential drawbacks. To solve this problem we have extracted waste waters of paint and coatings manufactures in spray extraction column to remove acetyl acetone. Isopropyl ether was used as an extractant.According to calculations three-stage scheme for design of extraction unit was proposed. The proposed non-waste treatment technology of sewage from organic admixtures has many advantages:
  1. Low energy costs for realization of technology, the processes used in the technology proceed at soft regimes.
  2. Extraction treatment of sewage has essential ecological value
  3. Extractants is directed to distillation column, where isopropyl ether is separated and passed back to the beginning of scheme for recycling. Calculation is based on equilibrium curve and Sherwood number. Conclusions of extraction of sewage with isopropyl ether was performed. Mathematical model was proposed by adding reverse flow values into its structure. Specific contact area and distance between stages was determined. Molecular diffusion coefficients of acetyl acetone in extraction and raffinate phases were detected. Mass transfer coefficients of acetyl acetone in both phases were calculated. The equation on determining mass transfer coefficient of acetyl acetone was proposed. The concentration of acetyl acetone in phases and extractor height was determined with help of mathematical model.
